RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center (RCC) provides 24-hour helpline support, medical advocacy, and law enforcement advocacy for sexual assault survivors of all ages, counseling and personal advocacy for survivors twelve years of age and older, legal advocacy, campus disciplinary process advocacy, systems advocacy, self-defense, education, outreach, professional development and prevention programming.

Position Summary

The Senior Director of Client Services (SDCS) is responsible for managing all crisis response services for RCC’s clients. The SDCS supervises all direct services staff including, 24-hour medical, legal and counselor advocates, support-group facilitators, crisis services and volunteer coordinator, and interns.  Staff are located at the main office, UW-Madison, Edgewood College, Madison College and work in middle schools and high schools throughout Dane County.  The SDCS ensures that all RCC direct services meet the needs of the most marginalized survivors in the county. 

The SDCS is responsible for directing the development of all client programming and services; coordinating services with the Executive Director and the Assistant Director of Education and Assistant Director of Outreach and Prevention; department grant development, writing and reporting; working in collaboration with all systems related to RCC’s services across the county; and setting and meeting goals for the department. The SDCS is part of the agency’s executive team and is supervised by the Executive Director.  As with all RCC employees, the SDCS must be committed to providing services with and to a variety of cultures with cultural awareness, sensitivity and humility. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Program Management 

  • Assess current service provision for cultural competency and develop strategies for serving the needs of survivors of color, LGBTQIA+ survivors, male survivors, elder survivors, survivors with diverse religious beliefs, survivors with diverse political beliefs and survivors of all physical and intellectual abilities as well as other marginalized survivors.

  • Participate in RCC’s ongoing internal strategies to maintain culturally diverse and inclusive services and agency environment.

  • Develop measurement tools to continuously evaluate client services for cultural responsiveness and ensure services and staff capabilities meet the needs of the community.

  • Ensure direct services staff successfully engage in continued, culturally relevant individual and group professional development in order to provide high quality advocacy including medical, legal, campus, personal and other advocacy based on client need in order to help survivors heal from sexual assault.

  • Manage Direct Services Department activities including organizing and facilitating department meetings, planning, implementing and evaluating long-range goals and annual work plan development, developing an annual department budget, tracking department expenses, and coordinating with other RCC programs.

  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support that ensures the success of direct service employees, assist in the development of goals for their professional growth, provide administrative supervision, oversee and conduct new employee hiring and training, facilitate weekly direct service staffing meetings and conduct performance reviews.

  • Ensure staff have trauma-informed services supervision and work in collaboration with the trauma-informed services supervisor to identify client trends, training needs and supervision needs.

  • Maintain working knowledge of current research in the field of trauma, counseling and advocacy. 

  • Maintain expertise on culturally specific sexual assault service provision.

  • Supervise Volunteer and Helpline Services Coordinator to recruit, train and manage Helpline volunteers and work with On-Call Advocate staff to ensure coverage of 24-hour Helpline and Advocate program.

  • Ensure tracking of data and production of reports to demonstrate program effectiveness and ensure program and individual compliance with all grant requirements. 

  • Assist in developing, writing, and reporting government grants to maintain direct services.

  • Prepare program reports for Executive Director as requested.

  • Contribute to a healthy and productive work environment.

Participation on Executive Team

  • Ensure Executive Director is regularly briefed in a timely manner on department trends, programming activities and community relationships.

  • Participate in agency-wide director meetings for the communication and coordination of agency activities. 

  • Participate in strategic planning and diversity and inclusion strategies.

  • Participate in all-staff meetings, in-services and supervision meetings with Executive Director. 

  • Actively engage as a member of the RCC Staff by providing technical and emotional support to other members of the team.

Individual and Systems Advocacy

  • Provide limited medical, legal and campus advocacy to clients to maintain skills and support the direct services team. 

  • Maintain expertise on legal advocacy issues related to sexual assault including, but not limited to, current laws, policies, procedures, administrative rules, judicial rulings, law enforcement practices, academic oversight, criminal proceedings, civil proceedings, evidence collection, and trends with the crime lab, district attorney’s office, forensic nurse program, and law enforcement special victim units. 

  • Closely collaborate with organizations and agencies impacting sexual assault victims including but not limited to local, county and campus law enforcement, District Attorney’s office, forensic nurse program, Department of Justice Office of Crime Victim Services, Child Protective Services, campus systems, Safe Harbor, culturally-specific service providers and other direct service provider programs and ensure that the Executive Director is kept apprised of issues related to these relationships.

Outreach and Professional Training

  • As requested, represent RCC at appropriate meetings and events related to the provision of sexual assault victim services in Dane County and communicate activities to Executive Director and other program directors.

  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Education and Assistant Director of Outreach and Prevention, design, facilitate and provide community education, outreach, and professional training as appropriate.

  • Work with the Director of Development and Assistant Director of Outreach and Prevention to develop outreach materials for the direct services program and develop strategies for services outreach.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in social work or related field or experience equivalent to educational and experiential requirements of these fields of study.

  • Personal and professional experience working with communities of color as well as professional experience working with a variety of cultures with cultural awareness, sensitivity and humility.

  • Commitment to supporting RCC’s values of serving all survivors in Dane County, and an understanding of privilege and oppression and its impact on client needs and services.

  • At least five years of experience providing crisis intervention and advocacy.

  • Experience providing supervision and management.

  • Experience and/or training in providing crisis intervention services to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse or related crimes.

  • Experience in budgeting, and grant oversight in non-profit environment.
